“Whose church is this anyway?”

At one of my lowest points in fifty-seven years of ministry, I was praying (actually complaining to God) about the terrible condition of the church I was serving as pastor and my seeming inability to pull the congregation out of a nose dive. I was saying something like this, “Lord, why did You bring me to this place? I’ve tried every ‘trick of the trade’ I know, and none of them have worked. The harder I try the worse it gets.”

After a long pause, I felt the Lord said this to me, “Whose church is this anyway?”

I said, “Yours, Lord.”

Then He said, “Then whose problems are these to deal with?”

I said, with great reluctance, “Yours, Lord.”

I concluded, from this brief dialogue, that Jesus was the Lord of the church, and He, as Lord, would deal with the problems. My need was to trust Him more.

Maybe you are facing a similar scenario. May I say to you, “Jesus, is the Lord of the Church. You are not the Savior, and He wants you to trust Him with the challenges in your ministry.”

A Scripture that has become a “North Star” for me Is Proverbs 3: 5-6...

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will direct your paths.”

I would love to share further with you how this Scripture has worked for me. Give me a call (356) 718-0738, cell (256) 335-8288, or send me an email. I promise I will respond.
